About the Artist
BIOGRAPHY
Waseem Marzouki is a Syrian artist based in Los Angeles. His work operates as a forensic “blueprint” of conflict, using a technical visual language to map power systems.
By layering military iconography with cultural symbols, he constructs narrative “road maps” that function as enduring historical records.
A graduate of Damascus University (BA, Fine Arts), Marzouki has exhibited internationally, including at the Saatchi Gallery (London), Qatar Museums (Doha), the Institute of Islamic Cultures (Paris), and Castelli Art Space (Los Angeles).
Alongside his painting, he has worked in film, collaborating with directors such as Oscar-nominated Mira Nair and Peter Webber, and studying cinematography under Oscar-winning cinematographer Vilmos Zsigmond. His film work has been presented at the Tribeca Film Festival, the Venice Biennale, and the Tehran Film & TV Festival, where he received the Silver Award. His work is held in collections including Qatar Museums, the Nabu Museum, and the Barjeel Art Foundation.
